Bass Strait Updates
Trip Notes for 23 February 2006
Car Shuffle
The biggest car shuffle ever: We leave our car in Port Welshpool (VIC) and have to get to Little Musselroe Bay (TAS). Adrian and Bruce had taken their car with both double kayaks and all gear and food for all four of us onto the Spirit of Tasmania ferry. In contrast, we now have to make it to Tassie on public transport. Our car will be waiting for us at the end of the trip, when Adrian and Bruce will have to backtrack to retrieve their car.
Kevin and I take the taxi to Welshpool, the bus into Melbourne, the airport shuffle into the airport, and the plane across Bass Strait into Launceston where Adrian is waiting to fetch us with his car.
Last restocking of fruit, salami, and ginger in Launceston. Another 150km in Adrian's car into Little Musselroe. Remarkably much roadkill on Tasmania's roads. Arrive in Little Musselroe just after sunset, where Bruce is waiting with the gear and the kayaks. No CDMA reception. HF radio works okay. Many possums around, up to four in one tree.
